Samsung Data Kit for Samsung S105 Phone

Average rating: Stars
Stars Functional but at a high cost.
I must first say that the data kit works very well with the Samsung S105 phone. Howevever, I'm not sure if the price will justify the purchase price. You get a data cable and a freeware software program called Easy GPRS 2.04, so you are essentially paying for just a cable. A cheaper alternative is to get an InfraRed Data port for your PC or Laptop and download EasyGPRS. This will be VERY slow, however.

Easy GPRS is a bit quirky of a program. It does NOT connect with Outlook, but I cannot say that I would have used that function if it were available. The scheduling functions are easy to enter and are significantly faster to input versus using the phone's keypad. Adding/editing phonebook entries is also a simple task. It includes the ability to keep them on your PC as well as your phone -- another feature I doubt will be much use for me. As a negative to the phonebook edits, if you change anything on the phone's memory or SIM card, you lose the grouping for the entry. Since I have all of my entries categorized into groups, I found it annoying having to go back and add them to the group again. The software included does not have a grouping feature, so this must be done on the phone.

There is also a way to put background pictures on your PC. This works flawlessly and is easy to use.

Lastly, the ringtone (melody) upload feature is a bit of a disappointment. The data throughput is great. However, the software included to play the ringtons as a preview is horrendous. The sounds that come out are quite off from the way it sounds on the phone and will hang on notes. The software has to be shut down to play another ringtone without the note that was previously hung still playing.

All in all, the functionality of the data cable is on the money. It's a nice way to upload data, and editing calendar schedules is a breeze. However, with the quirky ringtone player and high cost, you may be left disappointed.
