Panasonic BH-941P Ice Cream Maker

Average rating: Stars
Stars Good ice cream maker, terrible recipes
I've made several batches of ice cream since buying this little machine two months ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. Oh, the joy of making ice cream to your exact taste, because you control the amount of sugar, cream, and flavoring you want. My coffee ice cream tastes better than the carton of Haagen-Dazs in the freezer, simply because I use better-quality coffee (using concentrated brewed coffee, rather than instant coffee).

Beware of that recipe booklet, however, unless you want to die of heart disease at age 35. If you follow their recipe of vanilla ice cream as given, you'll produce a 1000-calorie serving of ice cream--even I gagged at this too-sweet and overly rich concoction, and I have a huge sweet tooth. It's best to cut all ingredients in half--that is, ONE egg yolk, not three, and 1/4 cup of sugar, not 1/2. And the cream does NOT need to be whipped--you can make beautiful ice cream with LIGHT cream rather than heavy cream.

That said, it's a lot of fun to experiment with different flavors, consulting other cookbooks for various ice cream recipes. Making your own ice cream is as much fun as eating it.
Panasonic BH-941P Ice Cream Maker - Panasonic
Stars It is a container to freeze icecream not an ice cream maker..
I bought it based on the good ratings it had received and was thoroughly disappointed. And my opinion is based on usage several times. Here are the problems:
- The constuction is really bad for the inside of the icecream maker. It is hard to close it's lid as the mixer arm does not fit and keeps falling inside upon closing.
- It hardly did any mixing which is the only thing I think it is intending to do. Several times I observed that it stops mixing the ice-cream within few seconds of starting. The mixing arm is of cheap plastic and loosely attached so it can not really mix once the ingredients are not liquid.
- The icrecream as per reciepe comes out hard like a rock. If you let it melt it break into smaller solid pieces.

I am sure that the ice-cream from this would be identical regardless of whether there are any batteries in it.
It is more like an icecream freezing container than an icecream maker. The fact that icecream comes out good (as per opinions of many users) has to do with the ingredients and not the icecream maker.

Stars Ice cream maker
The price was EXCELLANT! This compared to other places that had this same product to offer.

Unfortunately, it did not produce as good of a product as other ice cream machines I have had over the years.
