I find DVD sharpness sorely lacking compared to HDTV, and the Zenith DVB318's upconversion does indeed make this lack less sore . . . but it still ain't HDTV!

This machine, as reported elsewhere, does a horrible job of reading many disks that perform flawlessly in many other players. And I have additional complaints: The sound and picture get out of synch (something I can temporarily rectify by opening and reclosing the tray), the counterintuitive remote confusingly has two sets of up-down-left-right arrows and, in general, the color saturation seems lacking compared to the same disk in another DVD player. One more gripe: there is no way the remote (or my TV when connected to the Zenith DVB318) can adjust aspect ratios, how it fills out the screen; you're stuck with the view it gives you.

So, with all these shortcomings, is the upconversion worth it? Yes.

Best DVD player for Projector Owners!

I only bought this DVD player because it has a DVI output which can't be found on any other DVD players. When I received this DVD player I was eager to hook the DVI cable to my inFocus Screenplay projector. I was very surprised to find out that the DVI connector didn't fit on the projector DVI plug.

Only after some research I found out that the DVD has a DVD-D output and the projector has a M1-DA DVI input. First I thought that I just made a mistake by buying this DVD player but then I did a search on the Internet and found out that there's a cable for this situation:

M1 to DVD-D cable (sp-dvi-d)

I wished I would have know this when I ordered this DVD player so I could have had both ready at the same time.

The DVD player plays recorded movies just like brand new movies and the picture quality is awesome, even with the component cables!

Great DVD Player, but BAD Amazon

I order and got this player from "Amazon", not a reseller on Amazon. It is listed as NEW, but I got an open box item, and possible refurbershiped. So, I called and Amazon send me another one to exchange it. You know what the second one is the same same. Both box is all scratched and bumped due to what looks like excessive shipping and handeling. This is a nice upcoverting player but I would not buy it from Amazon.
